* man: proper roff encoding for ~ and ^Jan Engelhardt2023-11-271-1/+1

* man: more backslash-encoding of charactersJan Engelhardt2023-11-131-1/+1
| | | | | | | | "-" is the dash, "\-" is minus as we know, but groff lists some more characters: "^" is "modifier circumflex" and "~" is "modifier tilde", which, too, need to be escaped for our use. Signed-off-by: Jan Engelhardt <jengelh@inai.de>
* man: encode minushyphen the way groff/man requires itJan Engelhardt2023-10-271-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | Sparked by a recent LWN article[1], sweeps over the iptables manpages for incorrectly encoded dashes was made by Phil Sutter and myself. An ASCII minushyphen in the source manpage translates to a hyphen in output, so one has to use the sequence "\-" to get a minushyphen in the output, as groff_char(7) explains. * man: display number ranges with an en dashJan Engelhardt2023-10-271-1/+1
| | | | | | | | For ranges, en dashes should be used; cf. e.g. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dash#En_dash . Signed-off-by: Jan Engelhardt <jengelh@inai.de> Signed-off-by: Phil Sutter <phil@nwl.cc>
* extensions: libxt_NFLOG: nflog-range does not truncate packetsVishwanath Pai2016-07-011-0/+3
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The option --nflog-range has never worked, but we cannot just fix this because users might be using this feature option and their behavior would change. Instead add a new option --nflog-size. This option works the same way nflog-range should have, and both of them are mutually exclusive. When someone uses --nflog-range we print a warning message informing them that this feature has no effect. To indicate the kernel that the user has set --nflog-size we have to pass a new flag XT_NFLOG_F_COPY_LEN. Also updated the man page to reflect the new option and added tests to extensions/libxt_NFLOG.t Reported-by: Joe Dollard <jdollard@akamai.com> Reviewed-by: Josh Hunt <johunt@akamai.com> Signed-off-by: Vishwanath Pai <vpai@akamai.com> Signed-off-by: Pablo Neira Ayuso <pablo@netfilter.org>

* manpages: more fixes to minuses, hyphens, dashesJan Engelhardt2009-08-201-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Debian still carries patches patches to the iptables nroff code touching ASCII minuses, so I thought, what's it this time. Eventually, this patch tries to straighten things once more, per http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style#Hyphens and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style#Dashes . Titles will get the em dash; all typed commands or parameters with a hyphen get a minus (so that man(1) hyperlinking and copy-pasting does work), but other mentions get the hyphen.
