* build: fix tentative generation of nft.8 after disabled docLaura Garcia Liebana2020-05-181-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Despite doc generation is disabled, the makefile is trying to build it. $ ./configure --disable-man-doc $ make Making all in doc make[2]: Entering directory '/workdir/build-pkg/workdir/doc' make[2]: *** No rule to make target 'nft.8', needed by 'all-am'. Stop. make[2]: Leaving directory '/workdir/build-pkg/workdir/doc' make[1]: *** [Makefile:479: all-recursive] Error 1 make[1]: Leaving directory '/workdir/build-pkg/workdir' make: *** [Makefile:388: all] Error 2 Fixes: 4f2813a313ae0 ("build: Include generated man pages in dist tarball") Reported-by: Adan Marin Jacquot <adan.marin@zevenet.com> Signed-off-by: Laura Garcia Liebana <nevola@gmail.com> Signed-off-by: Pablo Neira Ayuso <pablo@netfilter.org>
* build: Include generated man pages in dist tarballMatt Turner2020-04-191-9/+8
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Most projects ship pre-generated man pages in the distribution tarball so that builders don't need the documentation tools installed, similar to how bison-generated sources are included. To do this, we conditionalize the presence check of a2x on whether nft.8 already exists in the source directory, as it would exist if included in the distribution tarball. Secondly, we move the 'if BUILD_MAN' conditional to around the man page generation rules. This ensures that the man pages are unconditionally installed. Also only add the man pages to CLEANFILES if their generation is enabled. Signed-off-by: Matt Turner <mattst88@gmail.com> Signed-off-by: Pablo Neira Ayuso <pablo@netfilter.org>
* doc: don't check asciidoc output with xmllintArturo Borrero Gonzalez2019-08-151-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | We don't need to check asciidoc output with xmllint because the generated XML is generated by a tool, not by a human. Moreover, xmllint can cause problems because it will try to download the DTD and that is problematic in build systems with no network access. * doc: Fix for make distcheckPhil Sutter2018-11-011-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | When building from a separate build directory, a2x did not find the source file nft.txt. Using '$<' instead fixes this. * doc: Review man page building in Makefile.amPhil Sutter2018-09-181-4/+6
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Previously, changes to any of the included adoc snippets in nft.txt were not detected and hence the man page not updated (unless 'make clean' was called). It seems like the '.txt.8' target only considers foo.txt when trying to generate foo.8, so get rid of that and introduce a dedicated target for nft.8. While doing so, apply a few other minor changes: * Although nft.8 target has to list all included adoc snippets as a dependency, it is sufficient to call a2x with the main one (i.e., nft.txt) only. * Keep common a2x parameters in a variable. * Use ${A2X} everywhere and hide all calls behind ${AM_V_GEN}, not just the one for nft.8. * build: remove PDF documentation generationPablo Neira Ayuso2018-08-171-15/+3
| | | | | | | | This adds unnecessary complexity to our build infrastructure. People can just manually generate them in PDF in case they need too. So let's keep it simple and remove this. Signed-off-by: Pablo Neira Ayuso <pablo@netfilter.org>

* doc: Add JSON schema documentationPhil Sutter2018-06-111-4/+13
| | | | | | | | | | The document is written as man page in asciidoc which means this adds another dependency to the build system. Though since the (long-term) plan is to replace the docbook-based nft man page with an asciidoc one anyway, we might ultimately get rid of docbook dependency in exchange. * build: add autotools support for the 'doc' subdirGiorgio Dal Molin2014-11-121-0/+19
'nft' documentation is originally contained in the XML file 'doc/nft.xml'. Processing this file with the proper tools we can obtain a PDF document, 'nft.pdf', and a unix man page, 'nft.8'. To produce the PDF we need the tool 'dblatex' (current release pypi.python.org/pypi/dblatex/0.3.5). To produce the man page we use the tool 'docbook2man'; it is part of the package 'docbook2X' (docbook2x.sourceforge.net). On some linux distributions the tool can have slightly different names as 'docbook2x-man' or 'db2x_docbook2man' so we search for all three names and use the first one found and issue the command: # ${DB2MAN} --xinclude $< Signed-off-by: Giorgio Dal Molin <giorgio.nicole@arcor.de> Signed-off-by: Pablo Neira Ayuso <pablo@netfilter.org>
